Anxiety disorders currently effect approximately
20 million American adults, not even targeting the many children
and adolescents who suffer some degree of anxiety.
Areas that Peace and Healing.com will address include generalized
anxiety disorder, social anxiety, panic attacks, panic disorder,
social anxiety, test anxiety, separation anxiety, obsessive/compulsive
disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, specific phobias. We will
also address treatment of anxiety disorders, traditional and alternative.
I feel certain that there is not one individual walking the face
of this earth that has not experienced at least some form of stress-related
anxiety or stress that has led to an anxiety attack. This does not
mean they have a diagnosable mental illness, or a condition that
begs for treatment!
A child walking up to his first roller coaster ride will experience
a degree of anxiety, along with excitement. Our sympathetic nervous
systems trigger a “fight or flight” response in many
situations, and these transient episodes of anxiety are not truly
diagnosable as generalized anxiety disorder. Anxiety only becomes
a disorder or “attack” when the anxiety becomes recurrent,
and/or debilitating in our lives, affecting not only ourselves,
but others, as well, where we are unable to go about our lives in
a peaceful manner.
Fear of driving over bridges, fear of heights, generalized anxiety
related to living in general, fear of the unknown, fear of terrorists,
fear of flying (this author knows something of this!), fear of speaking
in public places, are examples of what Peace and Healing addresses.
